The Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM), on Thursday 17 October 2013, donated a cheque worth K1 Million Kwacha to Balaka district hospital, which is meant for fuel for ambulances.
The money is for easy transportation of expectant women in the areas of Kapile and Mbera in the district.
Speaking after he presented the cheque, the HIV Program Manager Pastor Grey Mwalabu said that the association is taking part in the fight against parent and child mortality rate, which is also among the safe motherhood initiative.
“The main reason is to prevent issues of poor transportation due to lack of fuel which comes with bad consequences if an expecting mother is not rushed to hospital in time,” said Pastor Mwalabu.
In order to ensure that the money will be used for the intended purpose the cheque was signed in the name of Puma filling station in the district.
The donation is a funding from Tear fund-Ireland through its office in the country.
