CATHOLIC CHURCH TO CELEBRATE WORLD DAY OF FAMILIES

Every year the Catholic Church celebrates World Day of Families. This year’s celebrations are planned to highlight family’s fundamental role in Christian life. To celebrate this, the Vatican is organizing a unique pilgrimage to St. Peter’s tomb in Italy.Specifically, the Church wants to emphasize the key role the family plays in transmitting the faith to younger generations.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday 27th, and is sponsored by the Pontifical Council for the Family. It’s included in the list of celebrations for the Year of Faith.

Msgr. Carlos Simón Vázquez, Secretary, Pontifical Council for the Family said that this is an excellent way to end the Year of Faith.

He further said this pilgrimage underlines how the family is the first and fundamental means of transmitting faith in the new millennium and that it is where one lives faith passes it on and witnesses it.

In 2012, the World Day of Families was held in Milan with nearly one million pilgrims in attendance. This time, the pilgrimage is set to take place on Saturday between Rome’s Piazza del Popolo and St. Peter’s Square.Catholic Family Movement - Malawi
