Mourners are gathered in Mchinji today 20th July 2026 for the funeral of Mrs. Emeresiana Chitwale Jele Kapinga Banda, the mother of Rev. Fr. Audifansio Kapinga, who died on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the age of 106.
Born in 1920, Mrs. Kapinga lived a life marked by deep Catholic faith and commitment to the Church. She was baptized on July 1, 1921, at Kachebere Parish and celebrated the Sacrament of Matrimony at the same parish in 1938.
She was blessed with 6 children: Triphonia Kapinga, born in 1939; Augenio Kapinga, born in 1940; , born in 1943; Jovita Kapinga, born in 1945; Benjamin Kapinga, born in 1956; and Godfrey Kapinga, born in 1958. Her family has grown to include 200 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kapinga was a member of the royal family of Senior Chief Mlonyeni Jele and was known as Princess Inkosikati Meresian Jele. She was initially a parishioner of Gilime Parish and later became a member of Mary, Queen of the Apostles (Kamwendo) Catholic Parish in Mchinji following the creation of new parish boundaries.
She is being laid to rest today at Kapanila Cemetery, where family members, clergy, religious and faithful have gathered to pay their final respects.
Mrs. Kapinga is remembered as a woman of remarkable longevity, steadfast faith and devotion to her family and the Catholic Church, leaving behind a legacy that spans generations.
