Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has insisted that teachers will continue with their stay away strike as the government has not yet addressed their grievances.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting they had with ministry of Education at BICC in Lilongwe yesterday 22 February 2021, TUM president Willy Malimba, said government has only addressed the issue involving the deployment of teachers and buying PPE’s for the teachers and learners but they haven’t reached an agreement on the crucial part of their Risk allowance which has prompted them to continue with their stay away strike.
Meanwhile, Principal secretary in the ministry of education Kiswell Dakamau said it was true that they haven’t resolved the risk allowance issue but as a ministry there is nothing they can do but refer it to the presidential task force on Covid-19
