“Everything happens for a purpose.” This is the statement that His Grace the Most Rev. Benjamin Phiri said at the start of his homily at the opening mass for the 3rd day of the sub-region Conference of Catholic Bishops, currently underway at Sigelege Beach Resort in Salima.
Phiri who is the archbishop of Ndola archdiocese in Zambia said the conference has come at the right time as it will help the church in these countries to promote evangelization.
He emphasized that “We need to remain connected. There must be unity. There must be that common source who is Christ, who is going to energize us; who is to keep us going even when it is very difficult to carry this forward. We are stronger together.”
Archbishop Phiri then urged delegates to seek God’s help during the conference so that they may leave personal interests and ideas aside to tackle issues that will promote His kingdom.
The mass was attended by the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, His Excellency the Most Rev. Gian Luca Perici, all bishops from Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe and all other delegates.
The sub-region conference of Catholic bishops from Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe is being held under the theme “Enhancing Pastoral Unity and Solidarity Amidst Shared Challenges.”
