Joint Civil Platform demands transparency in the way government handles the plundered Covid-19 funds

Joint Civil Platform on Good Governance comprising of Citizen Alliance, Civil Society Platform for Constructive Dialogue and Centre for Mind Set change took to the street where among other things they want the government to expose everyone involved in the mismanagement of Covid-19 funds including those mentioned in the Auditor General’s report.

Speaking in an interview after delivering a petition to the civic office, spokesperson for joint Civil Platform on Good Governance Phillip Kamangira, has said they are giving the Tonse Alliance government a time frame of 7 days to respond to their grievances with respect to the democratic principles of not ignoring citizens issues saying if they do not do so they will close all ministerial offices.

“If Tonse Alliance government fails to address grievances of Malawians. The cabinet must be dissolved within seven days. There must be no any selective justice. We say no to one-party state as evident by the recruitment and training of some cadets in Mtakataka.  Those in the wrong including senior politicians who are part of the abuse of 6.2 billion must be arrested immediately.” He demanded.

Making his remarks representative from the Civic Offices who received the petition on behalf of the Acting Executive Officer, Mr. Hudson Kumbanga has said his office has indeed received the petition and that they will just add a cover letter on it and deliver it to the Office of the President and Cabinet today.

“We thank you for the peaceful demonstrations and we also thank the police. We have received the petition and we will deliver it today to the Office of the President and Cabine.” He said.

The demonstrations were according to the petition centered on Continued Political persecution on opposition members, Impunity demonstrated by the Government, Failure by the Government to fight corruption as evident by the abuse of MK6.2 Billion Covid-19 funds, Silence on how MK17.5 Billion Covid funds were managed on top of the already plundered MK6.2 Billion, failure by Government to fulfill Campaign Promises and unbearable cost of living by Malawians.
