Freedom from Fistula Foundation cites Myths and misconceptions as a hindering factor in curbing obstetric fistula which positions women as victims.
According to the Foundation’s country coordinator, Magret Moyo, most of the fistula patients and survivors reside in rural areas which are hard to reach communities, with most being illiterate, poor, vulnerable and voiceless.
She tells a media training in Lilongwe founded by Lilongwe rotary club, that fistula patients face a lot of ridicule in the villages while challenging the media to disseminate more information on the disease for the patients to run for repair and treatment at Bwaila Hospital which is free.
