Organised by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) and Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM), the march attracted participation of citizens of various faith communities including the Muslims from Quadria Association of Malawi, christians of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) and the Rastafarian community.

In his remarks after presenting the petition letter, Secretary General of ECM Father Henry Saindi said that Malawi is a God Fearing nation, therefore legalising abortion and same sex marriages  would be going against the will of God.

Commenting on the same, Member of Parliament and Chair of the Health Committee, Juliana Lunguzi said, “With prayers from Malawians, the discussions on the issue of same sex marriages and abortion have put the members of the August House in the right side of history.”

She said this after receiving a petition on behalf Parliament on 6th December 2016 from the Episcopal Conference of Malawi and Evangelical Association of Malawi following a peaceful march that took place in Lilongwe from St Patrick Parish to the Parliament Building.

“I am a Catholic, a woman and at the same time a professional nurse and I wouldn’t accept the abortion bill and same sex marriages. Pray for us so that we are guided by the Holy Spirit when we are in the August House that if we leave our conscious at the door as we enter the August House we run a risk of ignoring the voices that we are supposed to represent,” said Lunguzi.
