tholic bishop Martin Mtumbuka of Karonga Diocese celebrated 25 years as a priest, at a function which took place in his Diocese’s headquarters in Karonga.
President Joyce Banda attended Silver Jubilee Celebration Mass with some government officials and other Christians from other dioceses.
The bishop thanked President Banda for finding time to grace the Silver Jubilee while commending his parents for their role on his journey to priesthood.
‘I also want to thank you my fellow bishops and priests for being in with me all times and supporting me in my calling.
Let me also thank God Almighty for enabling me achieve this and giving me the strength,” said Mtumbuka,
He further appealed to priests in the diocese to lead an exemplary life and be good examples to the general public and advised them to refrain from condemning politicians for promoting ethnicity and favoritism saying that the priests also do the same in the church.
He said it is total hypocrisy when the clergy find pleasure in rebuking politicians and yet there hands are not that clean.
Finally, President Banda showered praises on the bishop for his hardworking spirit, adding the ‘young’ diocese had started on a promising note in terms of development.
She appealed to Mtumbuka and other bishops and clergy who were present; to join hands with her and all Malawians to pray to God to help eject the country from the numerous economic problems,
Bishop Mtumbuka was born on 5 August 1957 in Manjimbula village paramount chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi Distict
On 31 July 1988, Bishop Mtumbuka was ordained a priest at St Peters Cathedral in Mzuzu. He is the chairperson of communication in the Episcope Conference of Malawi, chairperson of seminaries, and also a board member of the Association of members of Episcope Conferences of Central and Eastern Africa (AMECEA).
