8 New Sisters Profess First Vows in Malawi, Urged to Trust in God’s Guidance

By Fr John Chiwaula

Eight new members of the Daughters of Maria Theresa congregation have professed their first vows, committing themselves to a life of service as they were encouraged to place their trust in divine guidance.

The advice came from Fr Nobert Kashaija, Deputy Director of Luntha Television, who presided over the Eucharistic celebration at the congregation’s formation house in Mlare, within the Archdiocese of Lilongwe on Monday 6 July 2026.

Fr Kashaija told the newly professed sisters that trusting in God’s Providence would enable them to fulfil their calling. He stressed that their mission could not be accomplished through individual effort alone, but required unity and collaboration.

One of the new sisters, Sr Odetta Mervis Samveka, spoke of her joy after making her first profession of vows. She urged young women discerning a religious vocation to remain close to Jesus in order to better understand their calling.

Speaking on behalf of the families, Mr Chikumbi Phiko called on parents to support and encourage children who feel drawn to religious life.

Of the eight newly professed sisters, five are from Malawi and three from Zambia.

The event marked a significant moment for the Daughters of Maria Theresa as the sisters begin their formal religious commitment.
